The walking group had a walk on the Isle of Wight on 16 May. Here are some photos of the occasion. Click to see them full size.
Most of use coming from the mainland got the ferry from Lymington, and met in the ferry terminal.
Once we had met the others at Yarmouth, we started walking, firstly along a disused railway. (Though it's not marked as such on the OS map - apparently only those closed by Beeching or later are marked on the maps).
We stopped for a cup of tea and a cake at a tea room in Freshwater.
The walk continued South through a nature reserve or something, to meet the sea at Freshwater Bay.
The best bit of the walk was then walking along the coast up Tennyson Down, with some great views back at the cliffs.
We stopped at the monument at the top for a break and to eat lunch.
We then turned round and went back down to Freshwater Bay, and continued further East a little way up the hills the other side.
This helicopter was flying around a fair bit, rather low at times. We saw a couple of others around as well.
We turned left and crossed this road (which appeared to be closed; I'm not entirely sure why as although there are erosion problems on the A3055 they're a long way further East), which for some reason had two old Cortinas and a moped with a side car parked on it. We scrambled up the steep bank opposite.
All these people are doing a 28 mile walk for charity (this lot are a good hour and a half behind the leaders - we talked to the fifth and sixth placed walkers while walking up Tennyson Down).
We walked down through farmland back to the same tea room we stopped at earlier.
We returned to Yarmouth, and sat in a pub for a while before getting the ferry home.
