Peak District weekend

A few of us went up to the Peak District for the weekend 1st-3rd July, staying in Eyam Youth Hostel.

Saturday

This is the view across the valley from the hostel.

We did a walk from Edale, up Grindsbrook Clough (along the old Pennine Way) onto the top of Kinder Scout.

We had intended to follow the old Pennine Way all the way to Kinder Downfall, but failed to find the path - after a few walks on the top of Kinder Scout, I believe that's because there isn't a path, and wandering about with a compass or GPS is the only way you can follow the router. Instead we walked along the edge, until we met the new Pennine Way route, and headed up it to the Downfall.

We stopped for lunch at the Downfall, before turning round, and heading back along the new Pennine Way, towards Jacob's Ladder

We made a small detour to look at Edale Cross. before continuing down Jacob's Ladder and back to Edale.

Sunday

On Sunday we did a shorter walk in the White Peak (southern) area. We started at Monsal head, a viewpoint above a bend in the river Wye, such that you can see along it in two directions. We walked along the river downstream, then up and over the hill to come out upstream of where we started.
