Malverns weekend

On the weekend of 24-26 March, there was a walking group trip to the Malvern hills. We stayed in Kinnersley house, a large house with space for 18 people.

We drove up on friday afternoon, and had dinner at the Marlbank Inn nearby,

Saturday

We walked out from the house, straight up the hill opposite.

At last, we reached the ridge, which we walked along with views on both sides, east to the Cotswolds and west into Wales.

We stopped for a while in Upper Wyche, a village in a pass through the Malvern hills. There was a stand selling hot drinks for charity.

We continued along the ridge, up Worcestershire beacon, the highest point in the Malverns.

Just a bit further to go to the end of the ridge, then we came down a little to find somewhere with a bit more shelter where we could stop for lunch.

After lunch, we came down and into Malvern Link, where we stopped at the Nag's Head, which had a great choice of beers, friendly staff - and an entertaining notice.

It started to rain while we were enjoying our drinks, making it even harder to tear ourselves away from the pub, but eventually we did, along the main road into Great Malvern town centre and then up to St Ann's Well, a spring (and now a cafe), then around the side of the hill back to the house.

This lake is hidden from the path, only by climbing up onto a bank were we able to see it.

In the evening we ate a really good meal at the Railway Inn at Malvern Wells.

Sunday

On Sunday morning we drove a couple of miles up the road to British Camp, and climbed up to the hill fort on Herefordshire Beacon.

We continued along the ridge, eventually heading down to Gullet Quarry.

I took a group photo here.

We made a detour to look at the obelisk, then returned to the cars by a lower level, but very muddy, route.

We ate lunch at the Malvern Hills Hotel, right by the car park at British Camp, before leaving to drive home.
