Skye (6/6) - Rubha Hunish

There was a walking group holiday to the Isle of Skye at the beginning of September, staying in self-catering accommodation belonging to the Sligachan hotel.

Friday 5 September

No breakaway group today; we all did the short walk out to the Northernmost tip of Skye, at Rubha Hunish. And we had by far the best weather of the week for it. We drove up and parked in a small car park by a red phone box, then walked across boggy moorland towards the lookout post.

The lookout is at the top of a cliff; below the cliff is a finger of land that extends for about a kilometre; there are a couple of routes by which you can get down to it with a little bit of scrambling, so we did.

Once we were back up, we had lunch in the sheltered area at the top, and then continued around the coast to Duntulm Castle.

The castle had signs up saying no admittance, which we - and everyone else there - ignored, and when we got back to the road there was a sign saying it was structurally unsound.

Saturday 6 September

On the way back to the airport, we stopped to eat our sandwiches by the side of Loch Lomond.

And that was it, time to fly home at the end of a great holiday.
