Lake District (6/6) - Scafell Pike and Sca Fell

There was a walking group holiday to the Lake District at the end of July, staying in a hostel in Ambleside

Friday 31 July

On Friday the A Team went up Scafell Pike and Sca Fell. Many of the rest of the group also went up Scafell Pike, but rather slower and by a different route; we didn't see them.

We set off from Eskdale up alongside the Esk for what seemed like ages, much of it boggy, until we climbed up to Esk Hause.

Then it was up to Great End (910m), over Ill Crag (summit is 935m but we probably went to about 910m) and Broad Crag (about 930m) and up a steep climb to Scafell Pike (978m).

After eating lunch on top of Scafell Pike, in the hope that the others might come up while we were there, we came down from there and climbed up on to Sca Fell (964m).

Then there was a long slow descent back to Eskdale, where fortunately a very good pub awaited us.
